Bob, GPS has been the blessing in my life. We used to count on mapquest or yahoo maps for directions, but they never give you the option of re-routing yourself in case of traffic, construction, accidents, besides, they are not that accurate. 3 years ago I bought a TOM TOM Navigator 5, which you install on a smartphone such as Treo, blackberry, or a Palm pilot. The navigator has 2 license for 2 installations, items. Needless to say I put it in both my wife and my TREO smartphones. Total cost was $400 and that included the 2 GPS bluetooth wireless satellites, one for each phone. I strongly recommend this product to everyone, specially if you have one of the above mentioned phones. Wherever I go I have it with me, since its already installed in my cell phone. This is a great gadget to have. The best thing is the option of calculating alternative routes. They even have an option, for a fee, which allows you to receive traffic alerts, thus re-calculating alternate routes. Last year I bought the upgrade, Navigator 6 for $50.00, it also includes the 2 license. Have not installed NAV 6 yet on our phones, as we are planning on updating our phones, so I rather use it on the new ones.
