The Monte Carlo downtown was the first Las Vegas venture of Wilbur Clark, who later started the Desert Inn on the strip. The downtown club's slogan was "As famous as its name"...in reference to the Monte Carlo in Monaco.

I did a quick count in The Gaming Table... there were over 40 Monte Carlos listed (though some were Clubs, some were Casinos, etc.)
