You've just opened the box a crack and already the demons are flying out, one for every possible color. I would vote, at this point, to disclose (post away). My reasoning is, now that it is known about production of an off-color, that means that anyone unscrupulous enough already to produce (recreate) your off-color $2 can simply make them any color of their choice.

The follow-on arguements of whether "this is the real one" will happen whether the subject is "No! This one is the real color", or "No! This is the real one of this color" makes no difference.

I suggest that it should be documented early on what the color is, who has it and if there is other supporting information, like testimonials of how and where, etc., to support what you are saying, be made.
