Since I hate standing in line at the local post office, I thought I'd weigh one and buy the proper denomination of stamps that I could use each and every time to mail them. The postage comes out to $1.30 under the new scheme. So..... what combination of stamps equals $1.30? Good luck trying to figure that one out.
The USPS website shows some $.90 stamps, but of course the local post office doesn't have any. So, I ended up buying a bunch of $.41 cent stamps and will use up some of my older stamps trying to make up the remaining $.07 needed to equal $1.30. Any way I work it I'll be putting on more postage than is needed.
That, plus the rampant uncertainty about what is the correct rate for each envelope or parcel mailed sort of made me wonder how many millions of dollars in unnecessary postage is being plastered on mailings each day.
