I got the phone for a couple of reasons. One was to have a source for checking my website at the convention. I was thinking of getting a laptop. The 3.5" screen is great for scanning the web. Pinching open 2 fingers to enlarge a screen is realy neat.
I really like the little things like the stock applet built in. Tap on the stock icon and my stock portfolio appears. Although it is 20 minutes delayed, I still like it. I could alway log in to my brokerage or Quote.com for realtime quotes. Scolling using your finger is cool.
Keying in urls and other info is a bit trying since the virtual keys are so small. However, you get a neat click whenever you hit a key. If you hit a key but not remove your finger, you can slide your finger across screen unil the right key appears.
Entering contacts into youyr phone book was never so easy.
I never owned an ipod. I certainly like that part of the phone.
The camera is neat in that any picture taken can be blown up on screen (pinch open) then your finger can be used to scroll in all directions across the scan.
In the weather applet I keep Chicago (my son and daughter), NYC (work), Brick (homne) and Vegas reports. Just touch one report and croll to the second report. Checking weather in the 4 cities can be down in about 2 seconds.
BTW, I probably understand about 10% of the phone's capabilities.
For $500 I like it. Is it a great investment? Probably not. But spending $600 or $700 on a laptop when I already have a desktop would not have been a great investment either and the phone is just so cool.
