My son in law is a dufus.......

My son in law went to Vegas last week to play in a few of the tournaments. I didn't hear where he was playing but the first prize in one tournament would have been $160,000 plus a WSOP seat. At the end of the first day he was the number 10 leader in chips with only 170 players left.

I know that a lot of pro players just like to prove that they are the best player and not worried about making money but if you are an amateur and in this position wouldn't you play conservatively and hope to finish in the money? I know I would. In fact, I know for sure that I would not be crippled early the next morning by betting big on a flush draw and losing when you don't hit it. Then again I am not a big Holdem player so my take may be way off.

So am I right or wrong?
