NCR, BankNote of the Day.....
Today’s note comes from the African country of Liberia. Liberia meaning ‘freedom’ was formed as a settlement of freed slaves from the United States. The Liberian flag resembles the United States Flag, but with only 11 stripes instead of 13 and one star instead of 50. It is a very sluggish and war torn country situated on the West coast of Africa bordered by the Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. Corruption and illiteracy plague the small struggling small country with only 2 FM radio stations, 1 TV station and 2 airports with paved runways.
The note selected today is a 2003 issue 50 Dollar note featuring Samuel Kayon Doe who led a coup in 1980 and was killed in 1989. The back depicts palm nut harvesting. The note has a watermark resembling the portrait of Samuel Doe, and has a security thread. This note is UNCirculated and carries a $7.50 book value. ENJOY!
