Re: Convention 1 Question
In Response To: Convention 1 Question ()

No Barry, Allan's closer to right.

There were several hurdles, none of which had to do with collectibles being casino property.

First was a general prohibition against auctions in hotels on the Strip (although we might have been able to fit within one of several exceptions). Second, and more significant, was a requirement that in order to have an auction to which the public was invited, we had to have a Nevada-licensed auctioneer to conduct the auction (impossible to get within a day of the convention, and too expensive). Finally, as I recall, even with a licensed auctioneer, we would have had to have posted a bond to conduct a public auction.

Eric and I managed to talk nicely to the county authorities, and to convince them that our motives were pure and we weren't out to rip anyone off.

Finally the solution was reached that satisfied everyone: a private, members-only auction, to which the general public would not be invited. That's why ever since then, only Club members can attend the auction and receive bid numbers.
