When the A.C. Casino "experiment" was approved by the NJ voters in a statewide referendum in 1976 ... and Resorts International opened in May of 1978 as the only game in town for slightly over a year (it wasn't until June of '79 that Boardwalk Regency opened) ... Caesars was reluctant to put their name on the building because they were concerned that this "gaming experiment" in Atlantic City might fail and they didn't want their good name associated with a potential failure so they originally named their property "Boardwalk Regency"... with no reference to "Caesars".
Well, by the time Bally's Park Place opened right next door six months later, in December of '79 ... and business was booming ... they later changed the name from "Boardwalk Regency" to "Caesars Boardwalk Regency" in a hurry! The property was again renamed simply to "Caesars Atlantic City" in 1985.
