IRELAND Casino Report
A couple of weeks ago we were in Ireland. We were in Sligo on the northwest coast of Ireland. I asked a cab driver if there were any casinos in town. He said there was one but his advice was to "avoid" it. He said two young men had come to town and under very "suspicious" circumstances had been granted a gambling license. They opened the Adelaide Card Room on Adelaide Street in Sligo. The cabbie said they did nothing but take the customers' money. Of course I had to go there and this 'casino' looked like a recreation room or a large school cafeteria room. No decorations--just a few tables. About 3 Blackjack tables and a couple of poker tables. When I walked in, there were a few people sitting at the tables--not playing and a couple walking around. I felt like I was probably the only 'live' customer there. Played Blackjack--and I don't think I have ever run into so many '21's' by the dealer. I had 19's and 20's beat time after time. Being the only player--it was difficult to harvest any chips but I managed a few. In Ireland they play in euros which were about 1 euro to $1.35 U.S. The only type of chips I got are in the scan below. The 5 and the 1 are going on eBay. I do have 4 of the 1's that I will sell for $4. each (that includes postage). If interested--post here. Thanks. Doug
