While not a professional coin grader, I know that if you have any intention of selling for numismatic value, under no circumstances make any attempt at cleaning the coins. It destroys their value. Buy a copy of the Red Book by R.S. Yeoman for about 9 dollars, and it will give you a rough idea of what the coins are worth, and you can make your decisions at that point.
