I was not aware that the membership had dropped to 2400, but it does not completely surprise me. I don't think that we've ever had 3000 members, but that figure seems more like a rounded off inflated number which is frequently quoted from the 2700-2800 neighborhood perhaps. The club has had some very promising and enthusiastic people come and go as their collecting interests change as do their priorities and finances. Small local clubs are experiencing dwindling numbers as well. Many once-active local coin clubs here in NJ have also sized down and/or no longer exist. I guess one way of looking at it is that perhaps we should be thankful that we're holding our own by replacing many of those members who do drop out each year with new members. I'm sure that many of those who are not current with their dues may renew come August at the convention and the current 2400 number may increase again. I'm also aware that some feel that the club should have doubled in numbers by now ... but they do little or nothing to promote the club or sign up new members. I guess it's the
"Let Johnny or Susie do it" mentality. Then there are those who are discouraged because their "investments" in the hobby may not have not fared too well. Ebay has taken a toll on our membership too I'm afraid.
Good questions Ron ... I wish I had some magic bullet answers for you.
