We all know that these chips will leave our collections sooner or later. If the collector is not the one disposing of the chips, repaired chips can easily be unknowingly sold without the repair being known or disclosed. Even if it is disclosed, how sure can the collector be that the next guy will disclose the repair, or the next guy, or the next?
I am not judging anyone, but I think repairing chips, unless the repair is painfully obvious, is opening a can of worms that I wouldn't want to be a part of.
