know who is naming the color in the first place on a chip. I've seen chips in person that I've also seen described in catalogs and on line and, to me, the color name wouldn't have been obvious. I'm agreeing with you completely.

I'm also not suggesting some kind of official color guide for the hobby. Too hard to define and maintain. You'd have to have color cops, and I've dealt with that in industry and it takes a lot of work and is expensive.

It is way overkill for our hobby as most collectors are unlikely to shell out $2500 for a good colorimeter or $25,000 for a photospectrometer, and those are still no good match for a good set of calibrated, discriminating eyes.
