I sent the scan to two of my friends. One is from Shanghai and he speaks/reads Mandarin. My other friend lives in Guangzhou (Canton) but was born and raised in Beijing, so she has a good command of both Cantonese and Mandarin pronunciation. In both Cantonese and Mandarin the meaning of the character would be the same, but the pronunciations are likely to be different, so if there was a pun in it we might catch that, too.
