Hockey, descended from Gaelic Hurling, was given to man by God, and is everlasting. It is played in many forms; ice hockey, field hockey, la crosse, soccer, etc.. Essentially the the same sport, with just some minor variations for climate and local social temperament.

Like the British Empire used to be, hockey, in one of its myriad incarnations, is always being played somewhere in the world.
