used for the OTY Judging (voting) process is because of the timing. In the several years I have been doing the OTY Awards, I have always been mindfull of the CCTN anticipated publishing dates and actual publishing dates (they tend to vary) and then the delivery dates (a very wide spread).
As it is now, the OTY Nominations form and article to announce the process, happens before the opening date. I suspect that when the magazine arrives for some people in early December the insert may be lost by January 1st. If I waited until the Winter issue, some people would not have had the opportunity to nominate before February 28th.
In past years, the timing of being able to tabulate what the top ten Finalists were and being able to acquire all examples and/or high quality scans and get them into the CCTN for Judging purposes just could not happen. And if it could (make the deadline) there is no assurance that the CCTN will go out on time and/or be delivered to everyone in time.
Case in point, the Club's election ballots. Because of the uncertainties of shipping and delivery schedules, the Board has been required to extend the voting deadline and affect postal notifications to all members.
HOWEVER, in principal, your suggestion has some merit. And in fact, 3 weeks ago I contacted Allan Anderson and asked if the timing would work out that I could get a color spread of all the Finalists into the Spring issue.
NOT AS PART OF THE VOTING, but as an article to share with all CCTN recipients the 2006 OTY Finalists. I am still working in that direction, but the separately mailed Judge's Pamphlets will still be going out to the Judges as the "official" voting tool.
Anyway, it would be nice if I could fully integrate the OTY process to CCTN publishing schedules, but alas, it just does not work out from year to year, especially since the Convention is not on a fixed date!
Thanks Don,
Jim
