I don't feel I am a fox, a hen or a guardian. I am just a collector with an opinion. Slabbing is unhealthy for the hobby because it adds unnecessary expenses to a chip, the so called 'experts' have no real expertise, and it facilitates fraudulent behavior.
I am equally opposed to high end chips being reproduced, as well as the overuse of the term rare. But since the overwhelming bulk of the chips are worth less than the cost of slbbing them, and the verifiable experts are willing to share their knowledge and expertise without charge; I have disagree with your position that slabbing may save the hobby.
The problems you addressed in your post are more the result of the expansion of the economic side of chipping. Personally, I don't care if the value of any of my chips increase, I would be more than happy if everybody got the chips they wanted. I go after chips I want, and it is based upon whether they appeal to me, and not the potential resale value. If a chip is priced to high, I lose interest.
