Bingo started in Lac du Flambeau in the 1970. Some time in the 1980's the Lac du Flambeau band of Lake Superior Chippewa reached agreement with the State of Wisconsin to open a casino with slot machines and blackjack.
In 1989 the casino opened, replacing the old bingo hall, with slots and blackjack.

My mom had a lake home less than an hour away, and each year I went up north (I lived in Milwaukee) I went to the casino from the year after it opened. I wasn't collecting chips in the early years and didn't play blackjack, since even then they had a $5 minimum and I'm the second worst blackjack player in the world.

The parking lot had guard towers where security monitored the parked cars to minimize break-ins. I thought this was a nice touch.
