Andy was questioning a 1955 chip with virtually no wear appearing 'shiny and smooth' on the surface.
I merely explained that most of the RECTL mold chips from that era do appear shiny and smooth, regardless of wear, and that there was no concern over the chip.
If you look at most clay chips That came out of Burt Co in the 50's they seem to retain the shine.
