I have the idea that it's the fees involved because of the amount of money trying to be covered or recovered.
Please don't get me wrong, I have a great deal of respect for most of those who choose the law profession to make a living. At the same time, I have had personal experience with an attorney who didn't do the job I contracted him to do, and, I believe it is unusual to find an attorney willing to take on a non-contingency based case for under $100/hour.
Your comment on malpractice insurance for attorneys is quite ironic, given the general opposition to tort reform by many legal professional organizations.
Out of curiosity, from what you've read here about Mike's dilemma, what would you charge him to recovered his rental car expenses?
