saving the money clip in pristine condition as the chip is disposable.

There are several methods:

Usually a good screwdriver will do the job, just be careful not to scratch the money clip.

If you put them in a microwave for an hour or so the chip will come loose and shrink and if you turn off the lights in the kitchen it makes for a nice light show.Sometimes changes color of the money clip but that is acceptable.

If after getting the pesky chip out and glue residue remains...Try some Goo-Gone...That should dissolve it and you now have a nice money clip.
