I don't know that's such a great strategy...

I met Barry Goldwater and he lost, probably because I was only 17 and couldn't vote for him. I never met Bill Clinton and he turned out to be pretty good, sans Monica of course. I never met George W. Bush, and I'm really glad for that.

I'll probably never meet Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, but I'll probably end up voting for one of them, but that's a long way off.

I've also met gubernatorial, senatorial, and congressional candidates that I didn't vote for - and I'm glad. I met a few I did vote for and in some cases I was happy and in some cases thought I made a big mistake.

Merely meeting someone strikes me as not very relevant to the decision making process of deciding who to vote for, IMHO.
