I see and have participated in many of the Lottery pools on this board and thought I would share a lottery story with you.

In the early 70’s I was in my teens and in Mexico City. I had never played the lottery before and was excited about playing the lottery, even though I did not understand all the details. I knew you bought a ticket and the next day the lottery winning numbers took up an entire page in the news paper. Each winning number varied in amount.

One afternoon I bought a handful of tickets and the next day I went through the long columns of numbers searching for any of mine. With much excitement I had hit a big jackpot and it was listed in Pesos so the numbers looked that much bigger. I was so excited I bought breakfast for everyone which came to about $35 in USD. I could not wait to cash in the ticket and go wild.

We found a cab to take us to a redemption center where it was explained that each winning number came on a sheet of 100 other tickets with the same number so each ticket was 1/100 of the total jackpot. You had to buy the whole sheet to get the whole jackpot. Once I cashed in my ticket and converted from Pesos back to US Dollars it came to about $37. I had spent $35 celebrating my bug $37 win! But, I did get to feel like a millionaire for a little while. A feeling I will never forget and I laugh at myself every time I think of that. Just thought you might enjoy it too….
