I am one of those young collectors that accumulated a large collection over the past 1 1/2 years. Actually when I started this hobby, I got out of the gate way too fast. It wasn't long before I was selling chips to keep up with my pace of buying them. After a short while I came to the conclusion that one of the ways I could keep going was to sell chips to help pay for the ones that I wanted. I would, and still do, buy large lots for just 1 or 2 chips I wanted and turn around and sell the rest. I will even sell the whole lot to help support my habit.
I have sold thousands of dollars in chips and the small profit does not even pay much towards the thousands of dollars I still have in the remaining chips (I know because I keep detailed records). Over the past year though, I have been selling much more than I have purchased. The reason being...I bought a home and am using the money elsewhere for the house and family. But no matter how much I sell off, I will remain in this hobby and just refocus my collecting when I start up again.
Aside from just enjoying the hobby, I also do it to keep me busy...and it definitely does.
