My son (aka Smooth6) has been looking over my shoulder for a few years and I set up a PokerStars account for him a couple of years ago. He'd play sporadically on the free tables (like Terry is doing) to learn the game himself. A couple of months ago he entered a freeroll (of course) with the standard 5,000 players and a cash prize pool and he won $3.

He took the $3 and played in some micro-limit games and parlayed it into $11.

Then he entered a $3 no-limit hold'em tournament with rebuys (I think there might have been about 2,400 players) and came in 11th. He now has about $200 cash in his account.

Previous to that I'd given him a couple of bucks here and there so he could play some actual cash games (as did another player who goes by "TheFarSide") but he blew through that pretty quickly. He's managed to hold onto his bankroll pretty well so far.

Oh... did I mention that Smooth6 is 12 years old?
