Charles is right! For the folks that have come aboard in the last few years, you really ought to consider having this in your collection, regardless of your preferences.
The turning point was 1990 and the Chipco that really celebrated nothing, but changed the chipping world was the Harrahs Sailboat $5 chip.
Those are the words of Mel Jung from my notes on my examples of this chip. "Chipper Mel's Memo's"... uh, don't remember what that was. Mel had a special interest in these chips because of his "involvement" with the brass cores that Harrah's was getting from Reliable. Mel doesn't claim any special insight to the why of the Chipco order or the happenstance of the idea of "collector" chips but you have to recognise how this affected chip design and the use of these critters as marketing devices since. Harrah's also kept the numbers of chips disposed of and "found" in house also I gather from reading Mel's thoughts. The exact number Mel had isn't contained in the memo because it wasn't pertient to his write-up.
It's a historic chip in a lot of ways and you need one if you don't already have one!
