Obsolete usually has the same conotation as "retired" for a collector. However, as I attempted to clarify there is a distinction. Obsolete usually will mean the check cannot ever be redeemed.
In Atlantic City there is no obsolete check. All of them are subject to redemption at any time. Hence, the distinction.
