The problem I see is are we talking about a chip or series of chips. A single chip that is removed off the table because that chip can not be played would be 'retired' while all the others are still 'working'. As with a human a single person 'retires'. A series of chips that are not longer being played is 'obsolete' And I will stop here with no more human references!
