Hey John, it's your hobby, so you get to pick what you collect. I collect chips from the 1930's gambling ships off California, chips from the Apache Hotel building downtown, which had the Apache, followed by the SS Rex, followed by the Eldorado, followed by Binion's and Joe W Brown's Horseshoe. I think I've spent almost as much on photos and postcards showing the evolution of the building as I have for the chips.
I also collect Wisconsin tribal chips, Kentucky illegal chips, and all Florida chips - cardrooms, tribals, illegals, and cruise-to-nowhere wet chips.
I also used to collect Vegas $1 chips, and some other topics, but I've decided to get rid of these because they just aren't fun to me any more.
So, it's totally up to you. There's someone in the club who collect 12 1/2c chips, another who collects 25c and $25 chips, and lots and lots of others.
Just remember to find your niche and specialize early so you've got money enough to afford what you really want.
