Buy your chips in the casino cages in the off-hours when there isn't a line. Be friendly and tell the cage person which chips you want and why. Ask if they have any uncirculated chips and tell the denominations. Also, ask for any Limited Editions, if you want to collect them.
What you collect and why is strictly personal. My collection is dear to me and I hardly ever find chips I'm looking for on the ChipBoard or on-line dealers - they aren't especially popular.
However, that doesn't deter me in the least. I love the look, feel, and history behind my chips.
Also, chips rise and fall in value. Higher denomination chips often fall below face after they become obsolete by the casino and can no longer be cashed in.
The rule of thumb is, however, that only my chips routinely fall in value, and chips I didn't buy rise in value.
Collect what you're interested in.
Good Chipping.
