"Which means you dont go into a shop and find 256 illegal chips at one time everyday."
Jason, actually it is a pretty common occurance.
I have done it many times as many of us have.
Illegal chips are found in large and small lots everyday.
The problem with them is many of the lots have traveled the flea market circuit all over the country. It is very hard to pin down exactly where they originated from.
Here is a scenario that makes sense but still not proof.
Colonial Club in Augusta, GA had chips confirmed by Taylor Co records (harp molds) as being delivered there in 1941. Guess what was found in the 1,000's of Taylor sample chips? Yep, some Colonial Club weave molds. Did Georgia send Taylor a few of their weaves as samples to make the Harps? Who knows.
I did not check TGT but I'm am betting there is at least 25-30 Colonial Clubs listed all over the country. IMO the weaves just don't make sense in Chicago. As far as we know weave was sold out of NY and CA at different times.
The weaves also mirror a weave remake of The Hollywood Club chips from Toledo, OH. We know the HC remakes were not made for the Toledo Club.
I have posted for help from the two Chicago collectors that might have info.
BTW, I also have the blue $5 you are missing from the set.
More than likely a lot more info than you wanted.
