I guess you forgot this post of December 4, 2006….
You posted; "I don’t feel there should be propriety information amongst CLUB MEMBERS... I thought this was a hobby. Not a business!"
You are entitled to that OPINION Glenn. I don't know what you do for a living ... but I sell casino chips as a legitimate registered business corporation AKA; "Mr. Chips, Inc."
Yes, I'm also a chip collector as a hobby, and I purchase chips from many sources ... both as a collector for my hobby and as a businessman for re-sale.
Do you think the majority of those 100 dealer tables at each annual convention and at other commercially run chip shows each year where collectors purchase rare chips are doing it for the fun of it ... as a "hobby"?
"Hobby?" Yes; if you are on the other side of the dealer's table. Do you think that CT Rodgers for example is transporting all those supplies and chip inventory he sells at chips shows at his large table spreads and through the mail as a hobby pursuit? Get real Glenn!
So to Steve, it’s about friendship. To me, it’s about business. And you tell me to “get real”.
The numbers clearly speak for themselves. Show attendance is down. It will be down further again this year and continue to erode. And there are still dealers tables available for this year 2007 convention, which is a statement in it’s self.
Unfortunately, I will go out on a limb and say IMO, this will be one of the worst attended conventions, with meager table sales at best, and there will be considerable rethinking amongst the dealers for 2008.
