Yesterday a post suggested that there's no point in recommending Club members for the Hall of Fame because the decisions have already been made, and impliedly, that there's some sort of "fix" in. Not only is that absolutely wrong, it's an insult to the current members of the Hall of Fame who form the Committee which considers new inductions each year.
Now that could have been a post made in jest (right Mark?), but in case it wasn't, I want the record to be very clear about the Hall of Fame and the recommendation process.
As Chairman of the Hall of Fame Committee, I can absolutely guarantee that no decisions regarding 2007 inductees have been made. The call for recommendations made in the last issue of "Casino Chip and Token News" was made in earnest and all recommendations will be considered by the Committee, regardless who makes the recommendations or who they've recommended.
I'll point out here that in the two or more months that our members have had the magazine in their hands, I have received only nine (count 'em, 9!) recommendations from our 2500+ members. Frankly, that's appalling.
This is YOUR chance to recommend the person or people you feel have contributed the most to the Club and to the hobby. The Hall of Fame is the Club's highest honor, and it deserves the consideration and input of each and every Club member.
There is no requirement that anyone be inducted into the Hall of Fame in a given year. Nor is there a limit to the number of deserving individuals who might be inducted. Without the input of Club members, the Committee might never know of significant contributions which might qualify someone for consideration for induction.
Can you think of members more qualified for Hall of Fame recognition than those who are currently members? Can you think of members equally qualified? In either case, take the time to complete the form enclosed with the Fall, 2006 magazine and give us the benefit of your knowledge and opinions. You have the chance. Take advantage of it.
