I was once with AOL!
I was switching from AOL to cable and timed it so that my AOL billing would expire at the end-of-the-month and my cable would be turned on at the same time.
At the last minute I called AOL to terminate my plan and they said I needed to call there special 800 number for terminations. (Now thats a well run company. They have 800 numbers just for terminations!)
Well, I called the number and explained what was going on and their response was, "I'm sorry Sir, our computers are down and I can't do anything."
My response was, your computer problem is no excuse. Just write it down that I called in and terminated my plan.
So of course they kept billing me and I kept not paying them. It took 9 months for them to finally figure out that I was an unhappy camper. I will never go back.
And to penalize me, I have to continue receiving their mailings of AOL upgrade CDs!
Do you not have cable access? How about wide-band? Geez, even the manatees know that AOL sucks the big one!
I do hope it gets worked out.
