If your post is small enough such that it would fit on the subject line, put it there instead of in the message part.

More people will read your post and less people will be annoyed at clicking on your post to read a one or two word message. Of course if your message contains a scan that you want seen, then forget what I just said.

Of course this is etiquette 101 according to Hanover. I could be off base here.
