Today’s selection is a very new 2006 issue 1,000 Shillings note from Somaliland. It is a commemorative “Wild Life Series” note and only 20,000 notes were issued. The note is so new that I have little information on it (the Somaliland bank does not yet even list this note), but it is another note I liked so much I wanted to share it with you early. The cat lovers will surely like this one, it features a majestic lion king laying on the ground at left and a Somaliland woman at right, also incorporated is new holographic foil as a security device. Along with other new security measures it is chemically reactive and will oxidize with certain chemicals as well as having UV coding. The back has a standing lion at center and a dromedary camel at lower right. This is the largest denomination in Somaliland’s currency. This note is UNCirculated and does not have a book value yet but is selling in the $20 range on eBay so I expect the book value to be near that price. ENJOY!
