Another reason, less intense.
When people have chips up for sale, and they get sold, often it says SOLD, which is fine, and easy to see, but then they delete the originals and I can't look at those pretty chips, or have any idea, what was being sold.
Just a bunch of deleted messages.
If someone writes something and knows they can delete it, it just leads to tit for tat, sometimes nasty messages, and then after the intended target reads it, the author deletes it, and most of the rest of us never see it.
If you want to blast someone, call them names or whatever. Take it to email! Don't post messages here, and then remove them. It isn't a public email forum for dirty laundry.
Some other software has a setting where the author can edit the message for One Hour (or one day or whatever) so that you have a good chance to make corrections, re-think your thoughts, change your mind or add images. After that, it's in the archives and saved.
Maybe removing the DELETE function would cut down on some of the nasty banter, because people would know that if they wrote it, we're ALL going to see it.
