But easy solution...pack only enough for a clip or two, and buy ammo when you reach your destination. In most of the states (well, the ones that are still part of America), ammo sales are unregulated. PA, NV, NH, FL...no problem. It's only places such as NYC and the People's Republik of New Jersey where you start to encounter stupidity in an ammo purchase. And the airports under the control of the PAPD (JFK, LGA, EWR) are, not surprisingly, the worst to fly out of with a firearm. Rather than just going to TSA, those airports usually call over a police officer who plays 20 questions and checks all paperwork. But they aren't hassling people as much these days; ever since that poor guy from Utah who missed his connection and was arrested in NJ for claiming his luggage sued, they've backed off a bit.
