Mark,
In order for anyone to quit smoking first you must really want to quit. Write down all the reason why you want to quit. Next calculate how much money you spend a year on smoking and then how much you have spent in your lifetime.
I quit cold turkey and it was difficult for five days. You must decide once you quit that you can NEVER have a cigarette. If you do have one you WILL start again.
The secret to my success was deep breathing. Anytime I had the urge to smoke I would take deep breaths and then immediately get my mind off smoking. It is very difficult but in order to succeed you must not think about anything to do with cigarettes. Do nt talk about smoking to anyone. Do not put yourself in any situation where you are around smokers. This is hard but a must. Exaggerate the deep breathing. This was my way of flushing my system of the urge. It is a day to day journey and each day gets easier. Even after you have beaten the smoking bug you must continue to be on guard. I would also recommend walking two miles each day or doing some form of exercise to help your body cleanse itself. You can not believe how much better you will feel when you have beaten this nasty habit.
P.S. I also don't drink alcohol. Are you ready to make that commitment.
