Jeff,
I have never believed the Newport Stardust chips were ever used in a gaming operation.
Have you ever seen a used one?
Do me a favor and do a little searching.
Larry Trapp's book lists the Stardust at 613 Monmouth in the 1940's.
I know a lot of old timers. None ever heard of the Stardust in that era.
Here is something I do know.
I found a 1965 article that says Sally Rand appeared at the Newport Stardust in 1965.
I ran a bingo at the Sportsman Club at that time and played poker all over Newport. I never heard of a Stardust in Newport in those days.
"Exactly how many times Sally Rand performed in Northern Kentucky is not clear."
"In 1956 she performed at the Glenn Rendezvous Club in Newport, at the Silver Slipper in Newport in the early '60s and at the Stardust in Newport in 1965."
If the Stardust in 1965 was one of the strip joints on Monmouth for a few months, I must have missed it. If it was then IMO the chips were made for it as a novelty.
