The Queen Mary 2 is at Pier 27 in San Francisco today - about 5 blocks from where I work. The picture doesn't do it justice. You have to stand close to it. 1132 feet long, 147.5 feet wide (at the bridge beam), 236 feet tall,151,400 gross tons, and yet can travel at 28.5 knots. When the ship passed under the Golden Gate Bridge (yesterday), there was 27 feet of clearance between the ship's stack and the bridge.
Funny thing is, one of the Princess ships is also here in SF today at the 'usual' cruise ship terminal just a short distance away. (The QM2 is too large to fit there). Compared to the Queen Mary 2, the Princess ship looks like a rowboat.
