This came down the email chain. I thought it was interesting and
actually quite important. Congress changed the dates for starting and ending
Daylight Savings Time in the USA! This is no hoax. Many people do not know
that this takes effect in 2007. Instead of the old system, it now starts at 2am
March 11 - and runs until 2am Nov 4 2007. It is in an effort to utilize more
daylight hours to save energy & oil. Additionally, anything that runs on a
computer will be effected. While devices like cell phones will automatically
update due to their connectivity to their provider, many companies must fix
their systems. (Especially the airlines and security companies!) Below I have
attached an excerpt from the MICROSOFT article about the matter, with a link to
the article. Everyone's home computer will need an update patch installed.
Some computers may install the update automatically but it is best to check the
link below. Each operating system has its own patch, which can be found in
their individual articles. All of this can be found at the link below.
"In August of 2005 the United States Congress passed the Energy Policy Act,
which changes the dates of both the start and end of daylight saving time (DST).
When this law goes into effect in 2007, DST will start three weeks earlier (2:00
A.M. on the second Sunday in March) and will end one week later (2:00 A.M. on
the first Sunday in November) than what had traditionally occurred.
This article summarizes the updates and tools that Microsoft is developing for
its customers to address the DST change.
Microsoft is dedicated to working with customers to make this transition as
seamless as possible for companies and organizations affected by these new time
changes. Microsoft is further committed to working with others in the industry
to address the broader challenges presented by this U.S. statute"
