Here's a comparison of the two different dates of the Stardust $5 chip made by Paul-Son in the 1970's. In addition to the different dates on the aluminum inlay (sometimes on 1 side only), the image relief on the 1976 inlay is much higher and the inlay is larger overall. I would guess that a new coining die was made for later production.
These are listed in The Chip Rack as V3456 and N2218. Both have "L" values, and I suspect one is scarcer than the other, but neither is seen often enough to get good data.
