I can and have made excellent arguments for both bowl games and playoffs. Playoffs would generate more money for college football (and TV), the networks are illing to pay more for it. The Bowls are non profits who put whatever revenue they generate into certain charitable causes. I like that. I also like the fact that schools which would not even sniff at a playoff game (Like my boilers this year) still get to go someplace, have a great time (both players and fans).
My objection to the status quo isn't bowl games, nor would I necessarily oppose playoffs. I think it waters down the competitiveness of the games when they are played weeks after the season ends.
From my experiences with college athletics from a variety of perspectives, the athletes who are taking the pud majors (and it is a fairly small amount of folks) would not be successful in tougher areas. Some supposedly pud majors are tougher than people thing (like physicl education). Many of these athletes would not be in college to begin with if it weren't for sports, either for lack of interest or money.
Sports is not the only arena where the hoped for goal is only achieved by a small pct.
Money is the deciding issue in most things. However your argument is that it won't happen, but the national debate on the subject is whether it should. Different subjects. Mine is when not how, separate still.
