It looks like the files you had saved in the older version of Acrobat were the ones that I could open on any system.

The good news for me was that although Adobe says service pak 2 is required for Windows XP to run the newer version, it seemed to work fine with service pak 1, so I didn't need to bug our IT guy to install it for me.
