When I was a kid, Ford was President and Doc Bowen was Govenor of Indiana. These were good, decent men, who strived to do what was right. My politics to this day are based upon what these men offered.
It is my hope and prayer that our leaders go back to the days when reasonable and intelligent men and women could respectfully disagree. Compromise, cooperation,
doing what is right, serving all the people are concepts that will better serve our nation, and are the ideals that will help us lead the world to a better place.
I accept that there are smarter people than I dealing with the great issue facing all of us, but it saddens me that politics and government, and the overall interaction of man has become a venomous angry us against them mentality.
It needs to be all of us together trying to do what is best. I thought a great deal about what we were missing while watching the services for President Ford, and realized that what is needed is the decency and quality demonstrated by President Ford.
I tend to view myself as a moderate republican, but have in the last few years become more independent, mostly because I feel both parties are extreme in their views and care ore about beating the other than leading.
I hope that we can find leadership which is intelligent, works for concensus, serves all the
people, and tries to do what is right, rather than what fits an ideaolgy.
I'd also like to see less trash talking (athletes and others), less meaness, and more cooperation. I know that these people exist, some are republican and some democrat, but they are Americans, humans, neighbors and family members first.
I'm tired of feeling that I'm picking between the lesser of two evils, rather than the best of the best.
Finally I hope you all have a healthy, happy productive 2007. May we all be the person God designed us to be.
Thank all of you for being my friends, and sharing your time with me. This hobby, and this club have been a wonderful retreat and I hope that I am lucky enough to say the same next year.
