Here's a few thoughts on your post worth considering:
Booking the convention anywhere with a minimum booked number of rooms directly through the "CC/GTCC Convention "special rates" would result in a number of free rooms for the BOD to utilize. That's a standard deal. It's the same for any organization putting on a large event. It's the norm.
The Convention could easily be held at the Wynn. However, as a result, there subsequently would be needed quite a few changes.
1. The booth rental would need to be substantially increased to the dealers. My guess is that the needed increase would result in many of the dealers dropping out. It just wouldn't pay them to spend that much time and effort with a significantly reduced profit margin.
2. The admission charge to attend the convention would have to significantly increase to all attendees. I would feel this is the single area that would be hit the hardest by an increase. A potential repercussion of the increased attendance fees would be a reduced attendance. I feel pretty confident saying the club is hoping to increase attendance.
3. The room rates to all people with the desire to stay at the same casino/hotel as the convention would also need to dig much deeper into their wallets, and pay a significantly higher amount. I silly instinct on this is that you would have a mere handful of convention attendees staying there. Another guess is that many of the few that do stay, would probably have much less cash to spend on chips.
Do I like staying at the Riv? No, I sure don't. Do I like the long walk to get to the convention area ? No,I sure don't. But I do know that the board spend a huge amount of time investigating their options and looking at all of the dollars and cents. I feel confident that the issue will not be forgotten, and that additional investigations will be done.
