As I remember the explanation, they come as part of the package when the club books the convention and don't affect the cost to the club.

I did not know that, nor was it mentioned when I tried to tactfully inquire as to why we were staying at The Riviera last year. When you search the sites where patrons review hotels, the unbiased skinny on The Riviera is not good. It is consistently rated below average.

I respect the "we get the most bang for our buck" argument, but it my eyes, that argument is now diminished somewhat when you take into account the person making it got a comped room.
