As of this visit, all of the New Orleans casinos are up and running with the exception of Bally's which is still closed, and from what various casino employees have told me, will remain closed. I've spoken to pit bosses and casino hosts and all have told me that they have hear Bally's has no plans to reopen the casino.
For those that aren't aware, like Treasure Chest casino, Bally's was located right on Lake Ponchatrain.
Treasure chest has reduced hours of operation and is only open until 3am. Treasure chest is in Kenner, LA, a suburb of New Orleans where the Airport is located.
Boomtown in Harvey, LA, a suburb of New Orleans which is across the bridge. Boomtown was the first of the area's casinos to reopen, and was only closed approx one month.
Harrah's was the second to reopen. As it is with Boomtown, before the hurricane everything appears to be the same as before the hurricane.
I didn't see any new chips in any of the casinos here. Boomtown did however, have a new slot card, which they said came out about 2-3 weeks ago.
The city itself it a mixed bag. As I drove around, I saw many, many houses and business that were burned out, boarded up or abandoned. I'll have some pictures and more info in upcoming posts. Right now...I'm finished unwinding. It's now time to grab some diner and hit the French Quarter.
